EXPERIENCE santorini and Megalochori

Cydonia Caves is situated at Megalochori Village almost at the center of the island. A short drive from the port and the airport and very close to the famous Santorini beaches, the prehistoric city at Akrotiri and the island’s capital , Thira.

Megalochori is one of the oldest picturesque villages of Santorini dating back to the 17th century. The village is known for its historical mansions, traditional houses, pirate hideaways, wine canavas and churches. The village captures the heart of every visitor with its small streets, blue domed churches, and ornate bell towers.

Cydonia Caves is found in the main square of the village called “Potamos”, right next to the village’s main large blue domed church. It allows visitors to experience living in an authentic traditional Santorini village with easy access to almost everywhere on the island. The square is the heart and soul of the village with local taverns, restaurants, and coffee shops. A place to enjoy the tranquility of the island and taste local delicacies, while enjoying a game of ‘tavli’ – backgammon.

A prominent feature of Cydonia Caves and other traditional houses and mansions of the island is the high walls, inner yard and solid wooden door entrances once used for privacy and safety against the pirates.
